Richard Bell

A prolific artis of international standing, Richard Bell was born in Charleville, Queensland, from the Kimilaroi tribe.

Exhibiting from London and Dusseldorf to the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Richard has generated broad popularity for his vivid, complex canvasses.

Employing totemic animal, dot application, cross hatching and traditional hand stencils, many of his works examine the historical treatment of Aboriginal people after European settlement.

Through intricate symbolism, he conveys the beliefs of Aboriginal people and the importance of their traditional country and deeply religious inheritance.

Creating paintings with multiple signigicance, Richard responds to the issues of discrimination, oppression and frustrations felt by Aboriginal artists.
