Lionel Phillips is from Trangie in Central Western New South Wales. He is a descendant of the Wiradjuri people. Lionel began painting some 25 years ago in an effort to reconnect with his culture. Lionel paints a wide variety of subjects depicting Aboriginal folklore, dreamtime as well as actual life experiences. Lionel uses a combination of cross hatching and dot work to create his art which is inspired by his country and culture.
