
Duncan Roughsey is the youngest son of the famous Mornington Island artist, Dick Roughsey. Duncan has had no fromal training as an artist. He used to watch his brother Mervyn Roughsey who was taught by his father. Duncan only started painting after the death of his brother Mervyn around 15 years ago. He usually paints the traditional story paintings, his favorite of which is squid and rat. Duncan is well known for his eye for detail and precision. He sells his art to the school and hospital and council staff, and is probably the most popular artist on the island. The stories associated with the paintings were taught to him through the oral tradition from his mother, father, uncle Lindsay Roughsey, brothers and other artists like Melville Escott and Arnold Watt.
